Not happening anytime soon, of course, but this is surely the next best thing.
In brief: It’s an add-on to the Wiimote that will allow for nearly 1:1 motion. Sword/lightsaber fighting ahoy! Despite my general lack of excitement over the Wii, this announcement has definitely perked me up regarding the little white box.

This is definitely cool. As a fencer, I would love to see an FIE game for the Wii at some point, even if it wasn’t all that useful for footwork training.

I’m seriously hoping a 1:1 table tennis game will be released…. here’s to hoping.
All the previous ones have really disappointed, especially Rockstar Table Tennis for Wii
Done will this would be amazing, especially because you don’t have the “sword being blocked” problem

Both fencing and table tennis would be quite sweet, yeah.

I only see one little problem with this, and that it actually puts the bottom line price above the 360 if you want a 4 player experience, and that’s being generous on the potential price.

The 4 player price goes from $430 (console, three more wiimotes and three more nunchucks) to $490 (assuming that the 1:1 attachments are at the very conservative estimate of $15, the price of the wii wheel). It’s only $470 for a 360 and 3 controllers.
One thing that the article doesn’t factor in, however, is the price of Wii games being $10 less than PS3 and 360 games. Then again, you’re buying a Wii game (Smash Brothers or even Zelda), but not Oblivion, Bioshock, or Halo.

Pentharian, you’re right about the price rise, but there’s good and bad about that. Shame though it couldn’t have been just built in as a default into a refresh of the Wii…
At least Nintendo is going to encourage innovation and make full use of the new controller by forcing it on titles like Sports Arena and encouraging developers to choose whether to really support it or not..
Mind you,I have one Wii in my office, but this could be the trigger to finally get one for home :]
