Naturally I had to buy GH2 for the 360 the day it came out last week. I’ve already got 1 and 2 for the PS2 but the prospect of downloadable songs sealed the deal.
Today, the first downloadable songs (a pack of three of them from the first Guitar Hero) was made available and I, dear friends, am not as happy as I hoped to be. The price for the downloadable songs? Over $2/song. At that price, buying all the songs from Guitar Hero 1 (which many of us have already bought once) would cost about $97, or over twice what the original game cost and that doesn’t get you an extra guitar!
I’m annoyed and frustrated at this attempt to bleed those of us addicted to Guitar Hero like this. You can’t even pick and choose which songs you want either. You’ve got to buy them in pre-configured packs of three that may include songs you have no interest in.
Having said that I will, of course, be buying/downloading them all because I’m a sucker.

Yikes. Know of any plans to lower that price in the future?
I was considering buying the game, but apparently CompUSA doesn’t carry it in stores, so I’d have to pay full price instead of cost. Doh. Maybe I’ll get it this summer when I make more money, have more time, and the parents will be home less to laugh at me…

Microsoft is basically forcing the people who make the games to set a price on downloadable content. A perfect example is if you look at Gears of War.

As long as people willing to pay for it you cannot blame them at all. Brilliant I say.

The 360 version is the first version I’ve ever really played, or more importantly that my wife ever played since she’s the real fanatic. To us, all the downloadable songs are NEW content, and I’m sure more than a few of them are going to get downloaded. The price seems a bit high, but not out of reach by any stretch.

I would guess the rights holders for the music want at least as much profit for the GH download as they do for an iTunes download. At $2 a pop, when you count away the song-specific development, they actually do need to sell a few copies before any profit is made. I doubt it’d make any business sense to sell the songs any cheaper than they are, unless packages of multiple songs were offered.

The thing is though, most of the songs for Guitar Hero are not the original bands. They’re cover bands performing licensed songs. Licensing music for a cover is, I believe, considerably cheaper than licensing original songs.

Same here Joe. My wife never plays video games. But Guitar Hero has really caught her. She has been playing it until past midnight when I am already in bed. I just had to send in my 360 for a repair, and I think she is having withdraws.

Wow, after reading all of the comments here it has become quite clear to me the kinds of people who play Guitar Hero, and I have to say, I’m not impressed. My first impression: You’re all a bunch of retards. I have noticed a few intelligent ones, but after Trichard it all went downhill. Anyway, Matt, they created Action Replay for things like this. My friend and I use it to get user-created songs, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone who’s put up the songs you’re looking for. If you can’t, then I apologize for not being able to give any more help.

I aplogize again for the second comment. I just wanted to point out that the method I’ve just suggested will only work on the PS2, so that people don’t try to say that I’m the retarded one.

I know the feeling! Bundling items seems to be the norm across all types of products these days, usually leaving you stuck with one or two songs (or other things) you don’t want.
Having said that, our grandsons have Guitar Hero, I have never been the slightest bit interested in the playstation. Now I am looking to play - but have to line up behind three grandkids and Grandad! It sure is addictive.
