I
got volume 1 of the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon from the ’80s tonight. I haven’t seen it in probably 20 years, but it holds a fond place in my memory. Having just finished watching the first two episodes, I’ll say that this holds up better than many other cartoons…but it still, unsurprisingly, kind of sucks.
So far, the best part was when the kids defeated Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon by putting a large carpet over a hole in the ground, which Tiamat promptly walked on and fell into.
Tiamat. The Chromatic Dragon. It wasn’t even Bigby’s Magic Carpet of Hole Concealment. Just an ordinary carpet. Tiamat.
I realize I might be expecting a bit much from a Saturday morning cartoon.

Definitely expecting a bit much. It’s a kid show. Clearly, the central premise is that big bad things can be defeated with a little trickery. I can buy that.

Ah, makes me remember the good old days of watching Zelda cartoons. Wonder if you can get those on DVD too.

Oh man, you just had the same exact experience I did, only I took mine one more step. Not satisfied with the D&D cartoon disappointment, I got G.I. Joe season whatever from Netflix. I remember both cartoons really kicking serious ass, with life-or-death drama and really good humor. Sadly, my memory is not as good as I thought it was.

That’d like… slightly annoy a godlike creature like Tiamat…
