This is a pretty amusing. There’s a Christian-oriented game called “Left Behind: Eternal Forces” based on the immensely popular “Left Behind” novels that take place during the run-up to Biblical Armaggedon. Apparently in the game you have to either convert people to Christianity, or kill them.
Clearly, this should have been an MMO, not an RTS. I want to get a raiding group together and go up against the Lucifer boss, with his horde of Muslims (many of the bad guys in the Left Behind game have Arab-sounding names), in the real Molten Core.

I have not played the game myself, but I was skeptical about the purported ‘fact’ that you have to either convert or kill, because that is not what the books were about. So, I went to the publisher’s website and immediately found a press release addressing the rumors:

Yes, I read that page, but I don’t see a rebuttal to the Chronicle’s article on it at all. (It refers to a news article published several months ago. The Chronicle’s was today.) The Chronicle claimed that you need to either kill people or convert them, but did note that you suffer a penalty for killing them. The article addresses neither of those points, admitting, however, that you are certainly killing people in the game (it’s an RTS after all).

But wait…if you kill too many people, or accidentally kill a believer, you can use your special prayer power to heal and have your sins forgiven!
I wish I were being sarcastic about that, but that’s what I saw on IGN or Gamespot or something.

The left behind books (the four or five that I read) were quite good, and I’m not an extremely religious person. If this is really how gameplay functions, it really could be done better… I suppose I can’t make a full judgement until I play it. Not that I’m really planning on playing it…
