ell yes. Wargames comes to the PC on September 29th, titled ‘Defcon.’ Buy it. Heck, if you pre-order it, it only costs $10. Introversion is a small, indie development team that creates some of the most unique games around. I think everyone who liked the classic 80s movie Wargames is going to want to play this.

Believe it or not, this looks almost identical to a game called Global Domination by Psygnosis. Except I think they went a bit crazy in the graphics department.
I have to say I’d definately buy this. I think the cut-down visuals will make things a lot easier to manage the aspect of actually playing the game. This potentially be great fun on the LAN scene. Possibly even replace Soldat. :p

I am curious how many peoples’ heads this would go completely over if you didn’t mention that it was a movie. I saw “Global Thermonuclear War” in my RSS feed and immediately thought of a young |-|4X0r Matthew Broderick using his 1200 baud modem and accoustic coupler to start world war 3.
We ought to rename each of the continents as cities of Achaea and have the Patrons duke it out.

On this note, it appears one of the motion picture studios is developing a sequel to Wargames about what happens when WOPR is scheduled to be removed/replaced.

I think Introversion just found out what “Matt’s Approval” means
The release of Defcon was just an hour ago and look :
“… Unfortunately this has overloaded the system, so we have temporarily disabled the store.”

Oh my, they really seem to have been taken with the pants down. Got this mail today :
“… Due to the un-precedented demand for DEFCON, shipping is taking longer than usual, and we are asking for you to bear with us as we catch up. Orders may take as long as a month to get dispatched, but rest assured we are working day and night to solve the problem.”

Any reason you didn’t buy it online via Steam, Toscho? Sounds like they might actually make some money finally with Defcon given what you’re saying about the demand for physical shipments. I think they’ve been running pretty close to the bone, despite the awards Darwinia got. Here’s hoping for them!

Bought it online. Call me old-fashioned, but I still like to “physically” own the game itself as well. Not to mention the fact of having a printed manual (find myself often reading the background story to - for example - Master of Orion III again).
Having said all that, I’m hoping for them as well !
