Style: Sorry about the mount!

Cardea was a MUD started about the same time as Achaea, but it never went anywhere. We eventually yanked their Vortex license due to repeated license violations (not paying us) on their part. I think Cardea is still running. In fact, I just telnetted to cardea-rpg.com and indeed it is. 10 years later, and it's still in beta! Heh heh.

The Victorian one you're thinking of is actually 17th century France. It's called Age of the Throne, but is/was using the Hourglass engine. It's still around I think, with a small handful of players.

Heh, very very very interesting reading, brought back much memories, from both avalon and achaea, and reminding me of fact that you still owes me a mount for winning some offering competition back in avalon days.. about 10 years ago. :)

I seem to remember in around 96 or 97, there was also a few other projects that licence the vortex engine.... a fantasy one called "Cardea" or something, and a victorian one called "Age of.. something". Are those projects related to Iron Realms at all?

That is correct, Kris. They are all Iron Realms games.

Isn't it just IRE for all the games and the ones upcoming? That is what I thought it was. The games have individual producers, but to me they've all been considered IRE.

*chuckle* sure brought a few old memories back. ;)
especially the thing about the non-coded cures.. it happened more than a few times that i got stuck because i was hit by my own secreted venom. :S
I can tell ya I was very happy that sarapis showed up at odd times of night quite reguarly. ;)

I just finished reading this interview and it was very enlightening I must say. The history was very interesting and I really enjoyed it.

Matt, Bravo at all the stuff you have accomplished!

I don't think the question was asked in that form. So, to clarify, there is Iron Realms, plus three additional companies for the current follow-on games (and presumably 2 more for the games under development).

Ahh, I don't remember if that was edited out of the interview or if the question wasn't asked. Iron Realms Entertainment is the same company as Achaea, LLC. I just had the name legally changed.

Matt... something you don't mention is when IRE itself was formed. I seem to remember that Achaea was run by Achaea, LLC for a while? My memory is imperfect.
