ust a short post to say how much I’ve come to love alternative controllers in the wake of Guitar Hero and the DS Lite Kirby game, in which you control Kirby the ghost by drawing lines on the screen. The 360’s been a bit of a letdown for me so far in terms of the games (though the hardware and Live service are both superb), and I have nothing but ill-wishes for Sony and the PS3 with its $600 price tag. On the other hand, when I think of the Wii with its lovely and accessible $250 price point and its revolutionary (for good or bad) controller, I get an almost child-like excitement. I cannot wait to see what kind of new gameplay I’m going to get to experience with the Wii’s controller. Bring on the Wii!
Edit: And Guitar Hero 2!

Nintendo is for wussies, and the fact that they called it a “Wii” (I much preferred the codename Revolution) irritates me. That said, I almost want a Nintendo DS purely for the sake of the new Super Mario Brothers game on it. That’s mainly due to the nostalgia of playing Mario on my SNES way back when though.
The most fun I ever had with an alternative controller was actually on that same console, playing Duck Hunt with a gun-shaped controller. That owned.

I saw something on Digg that said that the Wii may actually launch at $170. Regardless, I’m going to get one. I’ve never owned a console gaming platform before, but I simply must have this one.
Hopefully Maya won’t hurt me for any reduced time in Achaea :>

Alternative controllers are the way to go! I always loved the old light guns for Time Crisis (or, superscope, anyone?). Also, DDR pads, the eye toy games, my DS, etc… such innovative ways to play games.
Also, such things help get people from other generations into video games, people you wouldn’t expect to be playing (like the middle aged woman I saw at the game store the other day, trying out Brain Age on the DS).
I’ve got an Xbox 360, and I’m a bit dissappointed at the lineup so far I have 7 or 8 games so far, and nothing really stands out that much (though Dead Rising and Oblivion have provided hours and hours of fun).
The Wii, at the reduced price and innovative controllers are the next thing I’m looking forward to (since, you know, I’m already playing FF7: Dirge of Cerberus
). I’ve heard rumors of a $250 price tag, but I’ll buy it no matter what.
Speaking of price tags… $600 for the PS3? Oh, right, it has a Blu-Ray player in it. Wait, hasn’t Sony already failed two or more formats? Right.

I think putting Blu-Ray into the PS3 is a very risky strategy for Sony. It still isn’t clear which the “next big thing” is going to be in the storage formats, the competition between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is not going to be resolved for a while. What is certain, however, is that whichever loses out as #1 is going to die, and die hard.
If that happens to Blu-Ray and Sony are stuck with it as the format for their console, it could mean serious problems for them.
